Our first website!

news

Starting late May and early June Zailon has begun development on our first website for the sanctuary.

"I would love to code a site from scratch like I did with my personal website since I have formally learned web development but between volunteering for the sanctuary, my travels and applying for jobs I just haven't had the time to dive into that rabbit hole. Building a good CMS (content management system) from scratch takes a tremendous amount of time, afterall. So I started to create a WordPress site instead of reinventing the wheel after doing a little research on commonly used CMSs and website builders. I got completely frustrated with Wordpress and deleted it shorly thereafter. WP is just so clunkly, overcomplicated, comes with a lot of bloat and makes extremely basic tasks such as styling such a hassel. I have since switched to Grav for our site." - Zailon

Some goals for the site:

  • Have blog that keeps readers up-to-date on the latest sanctuary news and news about the local Vegan scene in Savannah.
  • Have a section that showcases our residents and serves as kind of memorial as well to those who have passed.
  • Eventually have a shop section for merch
  • Book a visit section, volunteer information section
  • A means of accepting donations
  • Volunteer and donors section where we list contributers and their stories on why they chose to get involved and what inspired them
  • An events calendar where we showcase upcoming events including but not limited to: potlucks, volunteer days, fundraisers, thrift/yard sales, education events etc
  • Email subscription options
  • Comments section for our readers
  • Social media links and contact options
